On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he would be speaking at this year's March for Life rally on January 23rd, in Washington D.C. His attendance will mark the first time a sitting U.S. president has attended the event in the organization’s 47-year history.

But this will not be the first year that the president or his cabinet will have been involved with the march. Since 2017, the March for Life has seen Vice President Mike Pence give impassioned speeches on the sanctity of human life. And just last year, rally-goers received a video address from the president himself where he stated, “This is a movement founded on love and grounded in the nobility and dignity of every human life. When we look into the eyes of a newborn child, we see the beauty and the human soul and the majesty of God’s creation.”

With the 2020 election fast approaching and the Senate continuing to hear opening arguments for impeachment, President Trump will hope to use the march as a way to shore up the evangelical vote.
