On Sunday, Dec. 29th, a gunman opened fire in the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas. The church, just west of Ft. Worth, had armed members that took down the gunman less than six seconds after the incident began. Two victims and the shooter were left dead. The gunman had a previous criminal record, according to the FBI.

Livestream footage of the worship service shows the tragic incident in perfect clarity. The gunman fires a short-barrel shotgun twice towards a deacon who had just served him communion. A third shot came from Jack Wilson, who can be seen instantly responding to the situation. After the first shot, Wilson can be seen drawing his weapon and delivering a fatal shot to the head of the gunman.

WATCH INTERVIEW HERE:

The man who shot and killed a gunman inside a Texas church is speaking out. Mireya Villarreal spoke with Jack Wilson, a volunteer security guard at the church.

Wilson is a deacon in the church, firearms instructor, and head of the church’s armed volunteer security team. In the video, you can see other members of the team drawing their own concealed weapons in response.

In an interview, Wilson said that many hours of training kicked in when the incident began. He also agreed that he’s grateful that he can carry a gun inside a house of worship in Texas. The state law that allows armed volunteer security within churches, mosques, and synagogues was adopted in response to the horrific Sutherland Springs shooting in 2017.

From both incidents within Texas churches, it is evident that trained, law-abiding men with guns that defend and protect their fellow citizens against evil, murderers with guns. Both Jack Wilson and Sutherland’s Stephen Willeford are noble heroes that stand as textbook examples of our need for an armed populace, especially as Judeo-Christian worshippers are increasingly the targets of attack.
