One-Third of States Support Texas’s Election Suit
Recently, Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, filed a lawsuit that, if successful, could overturn the election results in favor of President Trump. The lawsuit claims that there were several irregularities in voting practices in the States of Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
As of December 10th, seventeen other States have expressed support for the lawsuit. These States, over one-third of the nation, are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah and West Virginia. All of them have Republican attorneys general.
While these seventeen states expressed support, the attorney general of Michigan, Dana Nessel, has expressed concern calling the suit a “publicity stunt.” Some have criticized Paxton’s actions because he is currently under investigation by the FBI, a red herring that does not have direct relevance to the issue at hand.
Additionally, not all Texas Republicans are thrilled with Paxton’s actions. However, Gov. Greg Abbot and Lt. Gov Dan Patrick have both voiced support.
Whatever one’s position on the issue of widespread voter fraud, more transparency is necessary for future elections if Americans are to have confidence in the Republic. Hopefully, regardless of outcome, these actions taken by Texas and other states will pave the way to greater election integrity. Citizens must also pray that these actions are not mere “publicity stunts” or a demonstration of loyalty to President Trump over the nation. What could be more loyal than making sure the election results are valid? Nonetheless, healthy skepticism and constant prayer and vigilance are the only ways a Christian can approach the political.
Edit 12/11/2020: Over twenty states have openly sided against Texas filing briefs against the lawsuit.
