Former President Trump to Launch Social Media Platform

Like it or not, social media is extremely influential when it comes to political and cultural matters. Social media is no longer merely about connecting with friends or endlessly viewing memes. For better or worse, social media has taken on a role in the ever-raging culture war. Like it or hate it, it’s here to stay for the forceable future.

As such, sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have become the locations of the free-speech debate. How much should a private company be able to regulate speech? What if these companies are extremely influential? Furthermore, what is the difference between a platform and a publisher? Cancel culture is clearly a plague of civilized and intelligent society. However, a legal/constitutional solution will not be reached overnight – or any time soon most likely.

With social media being such a powerful force in the political sphere, former President Trump is reportedly launching his own platform. Apparently, the former President and his team are aiming to "completely redefine the game” of social media.

While still President, Twitter permanently banned Trump from the website. Fortunately for Mr. Trump and conservatives who enjoy social media, America is still a capitalist society (generally speaking) that allows new endeavors and market competition. Jason Miller, the senior advisor for Trumps presidential campaign, said, “Everyone wants him and he's going to bring millions and millions — tens of millions — to this platform.” Time will tell if this is true.
