Is Civil War Coming?

Will the U.S. be involved in another civil war soon? With TEXIT discussions and hard feelings about the election still looming, many people are convinced war is coming.  Sixteen percent think that a second War Between the States is very likely, and 30% believe war is somewhat likely. Contrarily, 42% do not think that America is headed for war. Republicans, Democrats (and Independents) all responded similarly in an unusual and ominous bipartisan display.

“It's quite astounding that nearly half of voters think we are headed for bloodshed!” the poll said. While it may be sad and anxiety inducing, the statistics are not shocking. With perhaps the most contentious election in U.S. history since the Civil War, divisions are palpable. There are two different worldviews competing in a culture war. It is a cold war that only needs a spark to go hot. The two worldviews are not merely different interpretations on a general underlying belief system. No. Rather, two radically opposing worldviews are trying to occupy the same space. A house divided shall not stand.

According to Zogby Analytics, the poll surveyed 873 likely voters. That number is a small sample size compared to the entire U.S. population, so the results should be taken with a grain of salt. However, it does not take statistician to understand the great divide in the so-called United States.
