The Pro-Life movement, especially in Texas, has seen lots of fruit the past month of May. On May 19th, Governor Greg Abbott signed the Texas Heartbeat Act into law after it passed in both the Texas House and the Texas Senate. This act outlaws abortion after fetal heartbeat is detected and will go into effect on September 1st, 2021.

On Tuesday March 9, 2021. this Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance was passed and became immediately enforceable with two mechanisms of enforcement. First, the ordinance established hefty fines for that anyone who performs an abortion or aids and abets in an abortion. However, this public enforcement mechanism will only work once Roe v Wade and similar court precedents are overturned. The private enforcement mechanism makes this ordinance immediately effective.

The Lubbock City Council passed a resolution accepting the request of Lubbock citizens to hold a referendum to vote for or against the proposed Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance. This ceremonial resolution begins the next phase of the Sanctuary City movement in Lubbock.
